Imagine yourself deep in the jungle, under the sea, in a land of ice and snow, on a farm, in the moonlit bush, on an African plain, in a prehistoric swamp...Then turn the page and find all the animals living there. A wonderful introduction to the natural world with intricate pictures to explore again and again, and a key to help you name all the animals.
Commended for Ashton Scholastic Award for the Best Designed Children's Book 1989.
Alison Lester is the well-known creator of many popular and award-winning children's books, many of which reflect her own country childhood. Her picture books mix imaginary worlds with everyday life, encouraging children to believe in themselves and celebrate the differences that make them special. Alison is involved in many community art projects and spends part of every year travelling to remote indigenous communities, using her books to help children and adults write and draw about their own lives. In 2012, Alison Lester became Australia's first Children's Book Laureate, a position shared with Boori Monty Pryor.
